Mining
From Helbreath Portal
Mining is one of the five item creation skills, which cannot be increased in the Helbreath USA cash shop. This skill is the only means of obtaining minerals including gems, both of which are used in Manufacturing and Crafting. Mining involves hitting rocks found in certain maps with a Pick Axe. As the mining skill increases, mining rocks becomes faster. Players who train mining can obtain any mineral at any skill %; those who want to mine for gems should however get to 100%.

Using Mining
To learn the mining skill a player must use a Mining Manual, found for sale at the shop. Learning the manual sets the player's mining skill to 20%. A pick axe (130 Str required for full swing speed), purchasable and repairable at the blacksmith, is needed to hit rocks. Once it is equipped, the player can:
- Hold Ctrl or enable the neutral attack mode (Ctrl N shortcut) and
- Left-click or right-click on the rock, or
- Hold Alt and left-click or right-click on the rock.
With the latter method, it is possible to stand two tiles away from the rock while mining it. However, if the player has 100% axe skill, this will deplete his critical attacks and then stop working. The pick axe endurance does not decrease when hitting rocks.
Each hit on a rock may make a mineral drop below the player. When a rock is depleted of its minerals, it will disappear. The types and amounts of minerals obtainable depend on the type of rock. There a six types of rocks:
- Types 1 to 4 are brown in appearance, drop coals and metals, and are found in all the five mining maps.
- Types 5 and 6 are blue in appearance, drop crystals and gems, and are found in Middleland Mine and Dungeon L2.
Mining Maps
This table contains information about the five maps where rocks can be found.
| Map | Rock Types | Maximum Number of Rocks | Number of Rock Spots |
|---|---|---|---|
| Middleland Dungeon | 1 to 4 | 6 | 8 |
| Aresden Dungeon | 1 to 4 | 26 | 36 |
| Elvine Dungeon | 1 to 4 | 26 | 36 |
| Dungeon L2 | 1 to 6 | 39 | 39 |
| Middleland Mine | 1 to 6 | 55 | 83 |
On the following maps, rock spots are indicated as well as teleport spots. Some of the internal teleports in Dungeon L2 are one-way. The Middleland dungeon has an upper level limit which prevents high level players from entering.

Rocks and Minerals
When a player hits a rock with a pick axe, the chance of the hit to be successful depends on the skill % and the rock difficulty found in the table below.
success chance (%) = skill - difficulty
The success chance is always at least 1%. A successful hit makes a mineral drop below the player. A bit of Exp is also awarded. If there are already 12 minerals at that spot, the lowest one will disappear.
This table contains the odds of a specific mineral dropping from a rock upon a successful hit.

Sometimes, a successful hit against a type 4 rock results in no drop.
After the number of successful hits against a rock reaches its amount of minerals, the rock will disappear.
Training Mining
Every successful hit against a rock contributes to the advancement of the mining skill. The number of successful hits to reach the next % follows the skill raising formula found here. A player's Str must be above 10 to allow the mining skill to progress. The maximum attainable % is the double of the Str score, up to 100% (50 Str). The maps Aresden Dungeon, Elvine Dungeon and Middleland Mine are recommended locations to train mining. The Middleland Mine has too few minerals while Dungeon L2 is too vast. Also, mining blue rocks slows down training due to their high difficulty.
Rock Respawn
When the total number of rocks is below the maximum number of rocks for a given map, a new rock may appear. This happens as follows: every 10 seconds, there is 25% chance that one rock spot (from all the possible rock spots on the map) is selected. If the selected spot does not currently have a rock, one will spawn. The rock type is random.
